Past memories

Five years ago, I attended a funeral that gave me memories I’ll never ever forget. During that funeral, there was a woman. One of the memories is of her crying totally controlled as if her son had just died. I find great difficulty in describing my memory of the pain and sorrow she portrayed.

Her son has just died. He was in his mid-20s, a tall, well-built and good-looking chap. From what I know, his motorcycle had rammed into a metal divider sending him into a tree.

Recently, there been so much talk and thought in my life about motorcycles and it has been a long while since I last rode on one. But just within the last few weeks I’ve been on my friend’s bike twice hitching a ride home. It makes me want to buy my bike even more.

Regarding riding, there are two camps of people if my life, those who quite strong object to it and those who don’t have an opinion. Nearly all the closes people in my life had strongly object to it at one point or another but their views have been swayed slightly due to me persistence of wanting to ride somewhere in the near future.

KTM. The question is when?

  1. I’ve lost 3 secondary school friends to bike accidents already. But 2 of them were drinking. You might want to go find some real statistics to make an informed decisions between the ratio of cars to bikes & the % of accidents each of these mode of transports have.

I’ve personally been in 2 car accidents already and i’m glad i’m not riding a bike. I would love to ride a KTM too, problem is i have a wife who loves me and kids who need me, Hence i’ve decided not to pursue my desire for this convenient and relatively cheap mode of freedom that my dad fully support.

Its your life, your choice, but the people around you who loves you will hope that you don’t do dangerous things.

  2. Just for the sake of knowing…

    Road Accident Casualties

    Year…………….2002…2003…2004…2005

    Fatalities…………190…..201….193….173
    Serious Injuries….146…..115…..82……87

I couldn’t find the car:bike ratio at the LTA, SPF and TP sites tho.
Wonder where i can find it.

  3. I think as a friend, I wouldn’t really encourage you to ride a bike. It’s way too dangerous. However, if you can really make sure that you can really be extra careful without riding the bike like you’re rushing for time, then I think it’s alright. :)

  4. like the previous comment, i wouldn’t recommend any of my friends to ride a bike because i wouldn’t want go to a friend’s funeral if something drastic happens. You can ride so well or so slowly and carefully, but you riding cautiously is just half of the probability of getting an accident because it also depends on the other party riding/driving well. My aunty drove a small car and was known to be slow and cautious, always keeping on the extreme left lane. But one day she kenna accident, not her fault at all..but as i said, it takes 2 hands to clap and 2 vehicles to collide.
